Massive heartbeat stars from TESS

چکیده

Context. Heartbeat stars are eccentric binaries that exhibit a characteristic shape of brightness changes close to the periastron passage, primarily caused by variable tidal distortion components. Variable potential can drive tidally excited oscillations (TEOs), which usually gravity modes. Studies heartbeat and TEOs open up new possibilities for probing interiors massive stars. There only few (masses components ≳2 M ⊙ ) systems this type known thus far. Aims. Using TESS data from first 16 sectors, we searched using sample over 300 spectroscopic binaries. Methods. We analysed 2 min 30 cadence data. Then fitted Kumar’s analytical model light curves showing heartbeats performed times-series analysis residuals searching periodic intrinsic variability. Results. found 20 systems, 7 TEOs. The occur at harmonics orbital frequencies in range between 3 36, with median value equal 9, is lower than those Kepler most system quadruple star HD 5980, member Small Magellanic Cloud. With total mass ∼150 it heartbeat. Six eclipsing. A comparison parameters derived fitting light-curve modelling shows does not provide reliable parameters. In other words, be reliably if includes all proximity effects. Finally, pulsations β Cep, SPB, δ Sct, γ Dor-type were nine systems. This opens an interesting possibility studies pulsation-binarity interaction co-existence forced self-excited oscillations.

From Massive Cores to Massive Stars

The similarity between the mass and spatial distributions of prestellar gas cores in star-forming clouds and young stars in clusters provides strong circumstantial evidence that these gas cores are the direct progenitors of individual stars. Here I describe a physical model for the evolution of massive cores into stars, starting with the intial phases of collapse and fragmentation, through disk...

Stellar Winds from Massive Stars

We review the various techniques through which wind properties of massive stars – O stars, AB supergiants, Luminous Blue Variables (LBVs), Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars and cool supergiants – are derived. The wind momentum-luminosity relation (e.g. Kudritzki et al. 1999) provides a method of predicting mass-loss rates of O stars and blue supergiants which is superior to previous parameterizations. Assu...

Oxygen Isotopes from Massive Stars

We investigate the yields of the three stable oxygen isotopes 16;17;18 O and their dependence on weakly constrained physical ingredients in pre-supernova models. We show that the 16 O yield is sensitive to assumptions on convection used in evolutionary models for massive stars. In addition to that, stellar wind mass loss aaects the 16 O yield of Galactic stars initially more massive than 30 M. ...

X-rays from magnetic massive OB stars

The magnetic activity of solar-type and low-mass stars is a well known source of coronal X-ray emission. At the other end of the main sequence, X-rays emission is instead associated with the powerful, radiatively driven winds of massive stars. Indeed, the intrinsically unstable line-driving mechanism of OB star winds gives rise to shock-heated, soft emission (∼0.5 keV) distributed throughout th...

Chemical Abundances and Yields from Massive Stars

Stellar rotation produces an internal mixing of the elements due to shear instability and meridional circulation. This leads to observable N/C enhancements in massive stars above about 7–9 M⊙. Rotation also favours mass loss by stellar winds. Mass loss effects dominate for masses above 30 M⊙, while mixing dominates below that limit. The effects of mixing are also much larger at lower metallicit...
